7 Summits Solo Project
“Africa Extreme 2015” is the incredible adventure that will see Danilo Callegari, the Friulian mountaineer-explorer ready once again to challenge the limits of the impossible in what is the third stage of the “7 Summits Solo Project”.

50 km continuous swimming in the ocean, starting in Zanzibar Town and ending in Bagamoyo.
1,150 kmendurance run from Bagamoyo to Kilimanjaro Base Camp, covering one marathon per day. He will run on dirt roads crossing Tanzania’s arid and inhospitable hinterland, ascending and descending plateaus crossing vast savannah areas.
Climb Kilimanjaro (5,895 m) without intermediate camps, from the base and directly on the summit.

Danilo Callegari’s “7 Summits Solo Project” began in 2011 with the South America Extreme. He aims to climb the seven highest peaks on the seven continents by combining real mountaineering with as many extreme outdoor activities as possible.

After completing South America Extreme in 2011 and Europe Extreme in 2012, it is now time for Africa Extreme 2015 This extreme sports challenge will be even more severe due to the environment in which Callegari will compete starting from October: the African continent.

“I will leave Zanzibar and swim 50 kilometers non-stop (within 24 hours) in the Indian Ocean to Bagamoyo,” Callegari explains. “From there, I will run 1,200 kilometers across the savannah in 27 days, practically a marathon a day. When I reach the slopes of Kilimanjaro (1,600 m), I will climb from one side to the summit (5,895 m) without intermediate camps, oxygen or porters, and then descend from the other side within 24 hours.

A new adventure on the edge of the impossible, where previous expeditions, such as climbing the Alps, the Andes, the Caucasus, and the Himalayas, crossing four deserts, attempting to cross the Strait of Magellan by kayak, and covering 18,000 kilometers alone in the most inaccessible and inhospitable places on the planet seem insignificant.

The “7 Summits Solo Project” also means “raising the bar of difficulty primarily with myself rather than with nature and external problems,” explains Callegari. In this sense, Africa offers an extraordinary opportunity and a unique place where I can put myself to the test”.

Dr. Giulio Roi, director of the Isokinetic Research Center, former swimming champion Marco Bellino, nutritionist Antonio Benetti, and Indian yoga expert Raju Paithankar have assisted Danilo Callegari in his preparation for this difficult expedition.

In Africa, he will face one of the most untamed continents in the world and go beyond his mental and physical abilities. He will go from the humid waters of the ocean to the sweltering heat of the central African deserts to the ubiquitous ice of Mount Kilimanjaro.
